Naomi Scott took to social media with a major update on the rumored Aladdin 2 production date.

What was Naomi Scott’s Aladdin 2 update?

Productionlist.com originally reported that Aladdin 2 has a shoot date of January 1, 2026. The sequel’s filming locations include London and the United States and the production entry has several members of the original cast returning for the sequel, including Scott as Jasmine, Mena Massoud as Aladdin, and Will Smith as the Genie.

The project summary reads, “A sequel to the live-action movie musical based on the 1992 classic animation about the titular street urchin who, with the help of a magic genie, wins the heart of Princess Jasmine.”

One of Scott’s fan accounts on social media directly messaged Scott with this recent information about Aladdin 2 to see if it’s true. Scott quickly debunked the rumors.

“Fake boo,” Scott wrote. “Completely false.”

Disney reportedly began development on Aladdin 2 in February 2020. John Gatins and Andrea Berloff were slated to write the sequel, with Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich attached to produce.

In January 2023, Smith was reportedly set to return as the Genie. Two months later, Massoud shared that an Aladdin sequel was “very unlikely.”

In addition to Aladdin 2, a Prince Anders spin-off was announced in 2019. Billy Magnussen was set to reprise his role as the titular prince in the Disney+ feature. The project has never come to fruition.

Disney released the live-action Aladdin in May 2019. Directed by Guy Ritchie, Aladdin was based on the 1992 animated film of the same name. Critically, Aladdin received mixed reviews. Financially, the movie thrived, grossing over $1 billion worldwide. Aladdin is the third-highest-grossing Disney live-action remake behind 2019’s The Lion King ($1.6 billion) and 2017’s Beauty and the Beast ($1.2 billion).

Aladdin is currently streaming on Disney+.
