There is a happy news for Mumbai and Pune residents. The journey from Mumbai to Pune will be even faster. Now a new project has been taken up to make the journey between Pune and Mumbai even faster and smoother.
The Central Government has recently approved the construction of a six-lane greenfield expressway from JNPT (Pagote) Port to Chowk Junction on the old Mumbai-Pune highway. The important thing is that this project is going to be built on BOT basis.
The project is estimated to cost around Rs 2,900 crore and will be implemented exclusively on Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis. The green light was given to this important project in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This highway will be constructed at a total cost of Rs 4,500.62 crore. The total length of the project is 29.219 km and it will be an important link connecting JNPT Port and Navi Mumbai International Airport.
This new expressway will greatly reduce the travel time from Mumbai to Pune. Interestingly, after the completion of the project, passengers will be able to reach the Mumbai-Pune highway in just 10 minutes.
2 major tunnels, 6 major bridges, 5 minor bridges, 4 flyovers and 2 road bridges will be constructed on this route to increase the speed of traffic. About 175 hectares of land will be acquired for this project and the construction period has been fixed for 30 months.
According to officials, the project will not only ease traffic congestion on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, but also speed up both freight and passenger traffic. Citizens of Raigad, Panvel and Navi Mumbai areas as well as industries will benefit greatly from this project.
With many industrial and residential projects coming up in the area, this new expressway will give a big boost to the local economy and industrial development. According to the government, this project will usher in a new era in infrastructure in Maharashtra.
