VPA i.e. Virtual Payment Address is an important part of the UPI system which makes digital transactions easy and secure without sharing bank details. It works like a unique address, so users can create their UPI ID in a few minutes and send or receive money instantly.

VPA in UPI: The pace of digital payments is continuously increasing in India and VPA (Virtual Payment Address) is playing an important role in it. It is a unique digital address that facilitates secure transactions by hiding your bank details. VPA can be created in a few minutes through apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm or BHIM. Through this, it is possible to send or receive money to anyone without entering the account number or IFSC code. This system is not only fast but also provides protection from fraud and data leaks.

What is VPA and how does it work?

VPA (Virtual Payment Address) is a unique digital address that facilitates transactions by hiding your bank information. Just like your email ID, your UPI ID or VPA is something like this – name@bankname or mobilenumber@upi. Through this address you can send or receive money to anyone without sharing your bank account number or IFSC code.

When you create an account on any UPI app like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm or BHIM, the first thing you have to do is set up a VPA. After this, whoever wants to send you money can directly transfer the amount to your bank account through your VPA ID. This process remains completely secure through the servers of NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India).

How to create VPA

The process of creating a VPA is very simple and requires only a UPI app.

  • Download any trusted UPI app (like Google Pay, PhonePe or Paytm) on your mobile.
  • Open the app and click on Add Bank Account or Create UPI ID.
  • Link your bank account and select the UPI ID of your choice like yourname@okaxis or 9876543210@paytm.
  • Set a secure UPI PIN, and your VPA will be ready.

This entire process is completed in a few minutes and after this you can make the payment without sharing any bank details.

Why is VPA important and what are its benefits?

The biggest advantage of VPA is security. It keeps your financial information like bank account number and IFSC code hidden. This significantly reduces the risk of online fraud or data theft.

Additionally, VPA makes the payment process faster and easier. There is no need to enter the card number, nor the hassle of OTP. Once VPA is set up, money can be sent or received instantly by simply entering the UPI PIN. This not only saves time but also gives the user confidence in digital transactions.

Increasing pace of digital payments in India

According to NPCI data, transactions worth billions of rupees are being done through UPI every month in India. This revolution of mobile payments has proved convenient for everyone from small merchants to big businesses.
With the help of VPA, it has become easier to adopt digital transactions from villages to cities, due to which India is continuously moving towards a cashless economy.
