Much of the UK is set to be shivering in sub-zero temperatures in hours, following brutal conditions seen in some parts of the country in recent days, weather maps suggest. The snowflakes fell across various parts of the UK last week with the worst of it seen in Northern England and Scotland, where temperatures dropped as low as -12.6C.

But weather maps now suggest further teeth-chatteringly low temperatures are on the way tomorrow, and perhaps even more snowfall.

By 6am UTC / GMT on Wednesday, almost the whole of Great Britain is expected to be seeing the mercury below 0C, a map by WXCHART.COM of 6hr minimum temperatures suggests.

Areas of the UK that could see minimum temperatures drop below 0C in some parts include:

England:

  • South West

  • South East

  • London

  • East Anglia

  • East Midlands

  • West Midlands

  • North West

  • Yorkshire and the Humber

  • North East

Much of Wales is also set to see sub-zero temperatures at this time, though parts of the south west and some coastal areas could could have minimum temps in the low single digits.

Large areas of Scotland will also see the coldest temperatures dropping below 0C, with areas around the south of the Highlands, possibly into parts of Aberdeenshire, Perth and Kinross, Argyle and Bute, and Sterling dropping as low as -3C.

Lows in Northern Ireland look set to range between 2C and 5C at 6am.

Meanwhile, forecast data collected by Netweather shows the snow risk percentage rising above 95% in eastern areas of the Highlands, and into Moray and Aberdeenshire at 6am tomorrow. Snow could also fall in other parts of Scotland as well as in Northern England, the maps suggest.

Forecast data collected by WXCHARTS.COM showing snow depth at this time indicates large build ups of snow across much of the northern half of Scotland at this time, apart from some costal areas in the north and west, and along the east coast. An area intersecting the Highlands, Perth and Kinross and Aberdeenshire, and seemingly into Moray, could see as much as 12cm of snow at this time.

Down into southern end of the Highlands and in parts other parts of Perth and Kinross, Sterling, and Argyle and Bute, depth at this time could range between 5 and 7cm.

There could also be areas of snow in southern Scotland as well as in Northern England, with the potential for 1cm between Cumbria and the North East, the maps suggest.

The Met Office isn't currently flagging snowy conditions tomorrow, ancitipating conditions will be "dry, cold and sunny for many".

Though it does note there will be "a few coastal showers, particularly in the east where winds will be brisk".
