Filmmaker Karan Johar’s fondness for long film titles in Bollywood is not hidden from anyone. The latest example of his hobby is his new film, in which Kartik Aryan and Ananya Pandey are in the lead roles. The title of this film is- ‘Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri’, which has a total of 8 words.
Recently its title track has been released and it is getting a lot of positive response from the audience. But the title of the film has become a record maker in itself. Karan Johar entered Bollywood as a director in 1998 and the title of his first film ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ was of 4 words.
After this, the titles of many of his films were also of four words. Hit films like Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Student of the Year, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil are examples of this. Not only as a director but also as a producer, his projects with long titles came out – Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Ae Watan Mere Watan, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl.
In 2023, Karan returned to direction after a long break and again broke the record of his 4-word title. His film ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’ had 6 words and it also proved to be a hit at the box office.
Now Karan has made his new film with Karthik and Ananya, in which the title has a total of 8 words. This has become not only the longest title in recent films, but also the longest title in modern Bollywood films. However, earlier in 2018 at the MAMI Film Festival, the title of Raghubir Yadav’s film ‘Ghode Ko Jalebi Khilane Le Ja Riya Hoon’ was also of 8 words.
In the last few years, romantic films with long titles are becoming popular with the audience. This includes films like ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’, ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar’, ‘Teri Baton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’, ‘Satya Narayan Ki Prem Katha’. Now it will be interesting to see what kind of impact Karan Johar’s 8-word film ‘Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri’, which is releasing on December 25, makes at the box office.
