Tesco is set to open a major new superstore in just a few days. The good news comes amid a massive blow to UK high streets, with numerous retailers closing down shops across the nation.

The supermarket's new store in Harrogate is scheduled to open on Tuesday, December 9, at 8am. Customers can take advantage of the retailer's "Low Everyday Prices" and "Clubcard Prices" to ensure they get the best deals during their regular shopping trips.

The cutting-edge store located on Skipton Road has created around 120 jobs for the local community and has been built using innovative design, technology and building methods to reduce its environmental impact, the company says.

The building combines a variety of sustainability features under one roof, including a timber frame which emits less carbon during construction than a steel one, solar panels to generate electricity for the store, the use of reused stone from a local stoneyard, as well as the latest heating and lighting systems with reduced energy consumption.

Shoppers will have a wide range of food options, while the local community as a whole will benefit from a £1,000 grant from Tesco to Rescurrected Bites, a food waste charity that runs community cafes in the Harrogate area.

Tesco will continue to play an important role in Harrogate beyond being a great place to shop, thanks to the supermarket's flagship community programmes - Stronger Starts and Community Food Connection. The store will also have a permanent collection point for customers to donate long-life items to support Trussell.

Opening hours of the new store are Monday to Saturday, 7am to 10pm, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
