A growing number of users have been asking the same question today: Why is Grok down? The AI chatbot has been experiencing a noticeable disruption, leaving many people unable to start conversations or load responses. The issue began spreading across social platforms after users started sharing screenshots of the same error message appearing repeatedly on their screens.

For most people, Grok opens to a black interface that displays a warning sign along with the message, “An error occurred. Error. Please retry.” Even after tapping the retry button, the service continues to fail, suggesting that the problem isn’t on the user’s side. The consistency of this error across devices indicates a backend outage rather than a simple app glitch.

Although the company hasn’t released an official explanation yet, outages like this are typically caused by server overload, ongoing maintenance, or unexpected faults in the system. Since Grok relies on real-time infrastructure to process every request, even a minor technical issue can temporarily take the service offline for a large number of users.

Reports online show that the downtime appears widespread, affecting both mobile and desktop users. Some noticed the chatbot slowing down before it stopped working completely, while others were unable to log in from the start. Search interest for terms like “Why is Grok down?” and “Grok not working today” has climbed steadily, reflecting the scale of the disruption.
