New Delhi: Till date there is no cure for diabetes disease. Once this happens, only then can it be controlled, but now its treatment has come. AIIMS doctors claim that this disease can be cured with a surgery. Dr. Manjunath of the surgery department of AIIMS has claimed that diabetes has been cured after just two hours of surgery.

Dr. Manjunath told that the International Diabetes Association had also recommended this surgery as a treatment for diabetes in the year 2016 itself. The association had said that with surgery, the disease can be reversed and the sugar level can be controlled forever. The same surgery was done on 30 patients in AIIMS. Now the sugar level of those patients is under control and they do not need to take medicines. Dr. Manjunath claimed that when medicines fail to control the disease, surgery can save lives and control the sugar level.

This surgery is like bariatric surgery to reduce obesity. In medical language, this is called Metabolic Surgery. In this, the path of the digestive system is changed through surgery. Through this, food comes from the mouth into the food pipe and then into the stomach. But after the stomach, the food does not go into the duodenum (first intestine) and goes directly into the small intestines. The benefit of this is that insulin sensitivity increases immediately in a diabetic patient. The pancreas starts producing insulin as per the need. The sugar level becomes normal within a day or two.

Dr. Nath claimed that with the help of surgery the sugar level became normal and we can say that diabetes is gone. Although after this surgery, if people keep their lifestyle bad for years then there is a risk of getting diabetes, but generally this does not happen with every patient. Only by good lifestyle and eating habits can the sugar level be kept under control for years and diabetes does not come back. Dr. Manju Nath said that this surgery eliminates diabetes, but it is effective only in type-2 diabetes. It is not particularly effective in those who have Type-1 i.e. genetic diabetes.

The main reasons for diabetes are the pancreas not producing enough insulin and the body not responding properly to insulin. When this happens, the sugar level in the blood increases. If it continues for a long time then it is called diabetes. Wrong eating habits, obesity and impaired lifestyle are the major causes of diabetes.

The American Diabetes Association has created many standards for sugar level and it is through that that it is determined whether a person has diabetes or not. There are many standards for this. HBAIC level in the body, fasting i.e. empty stomach sugar level and sugar level after eating. There are tests for all these and if your range is high then it is a sign of diabetes. We are telling you about the standards of diabetes one by one. The first of these is the HbA1c test.

HBA1C 5.7%- Normal 5.7% to 6.4%- Prediabetes 6.5% or more- Diabetes

Less than 100 mg/dL is normal i.e. sugar level is under control. If it is 100 mg/dl to 125 mg/dL then you are pre-diabetic. If it is 126 mg/dL or more then you have diabetes. Below 140 mg/dL is normal i.e. not diabetes. 140 to 199 mg/dL – Prediabetes. 200 mg/dL or more means diabetes.
