Punjab gets National Energy Conservation Award 2025

Chief Minister Hon’s visionary policies honored

Punjab News: The Punjab Government’s tireless efforts towards energy conservation and renewable energy have been recognized at the national level. President Draupadi Murmu honored Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) with the prestigious ‘State Performance Award – Group 3’ at the National Energy Conservation Awards 2025 ceremony. This award is a testimony to the visionary policies of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and his commitment to work in the public interest. Many senior officials of the country including Union Energy Minister Arvind Kejriwal were present at the ceremony. Punjab Energy Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO dedicated this historic achievement to the people of Punjab and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and said that this award is the result of the public welfare schemes of the Aam Aadmi Government. He said that the Hon’ble Government has taken many important steps to bring transparency in the energy sector, stop electricity theft and promote renewable energy. The Director General, on behalf of PEDA, received this honor in a grand ceremony organized at Rashtrapati Bhavan, which was a moment of pride for the entire state.

Expressing happiness over this achievement, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that this award is the result of the hardworking people of Punjab and the dedication of the PEDA team. He said that the aim of his government is to make Punjab a model of self-reliant and sustainable development in the energy sector. The Hon’ble Government has rapidly promoted solar energy projects in the last three years and launched special schemes to provide solar pump facilities to farmers. Apart from this, concrete steps have also been taken towards improving power quality and eliminating load shedding. PEDA has launched several campaigns to raise awareness about energy conservation and renewable energy in Punjab. These include energy audits in schools, colleges and government buildings, distribution of LED bulbs, and expansion of solar rooftop schemes. Along with providing free electricity up to 300 units to domestic consumers, the state government has also worked to make electricity rates competitive in the industrial sector. Experts believe that due to the policies of the Mann government, the investment environment in Punjab has improved and new employment opportunities are being created.

According to PEDA officials, Punjab has recorded significant growth in solar energy production in the last three years. Thousands of MW of solar projects have been installed in the state so far, and there are plans to increase it further in the coming times. Providing solar pumps to farmers instead of diesel pumps has not only reduced their costs but has also contributed to environmental protection. Additionally, transformers and distribution systems have been strengthened to improve power supply in rural areas. All these efforts are part of the Chief Minister’s ‘Rangla Punjab’ vision. This recognition at the national level takes the image of Punjab to new heights. Other states of the country are now thinking of adopting the energy model of Punjab. The Central Government has also appreciated the efforts of Punjab and has assured to give priority to the state in Central schemes in future also. Energy experts say that if this momentum continues, Punjab may soon become India’s first carbon neutral state. This achievement is an inspiration not only for the state but for the entire country.

Aam Aadmi Party leaders and workers have congratulated Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, calling this award historic. Party’s national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that this award proves that honest and working governments in public interest definitely get recognition sooner or later. The people of Punjab have welcomed this news on social media also and have praised the Mann government and said that for the first time they feel that the state is moving in the right direction. The Punjab government has also announced that more major reforms will be carried out in the energy sector in the coming times. This includes the provision of smart meters, digitalization in power distribution, and development of green energy corridors.

The Chief Minister said that his aim is that every household should get 24-hour quality electricity and there should be transparency in electricity bills. For this, the government has also allocated a special budget and strengthened coordination between various departments. The public has also been appealed to be aware of energy saving and take advantage of the government schemes. This award is not just an honor for Punjab, but also a milestone in deciding its future direction. The commitment of the Mann government and the hard work of PEDA has proved that with the right policies and honest administration, the state can be taken to new heights. Punjab is now moving towards becoming a role model of the country in the field of energy, and this journey will continue. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has pledged that he will take Punjab forward in every field and service to the public is his biggest religion.
