Amazon Pay now allows biometric authentication for UPI payments
17 Dec 2025

Amazon Pay has launched a new feature, UPI Biometric Authentication, to make digital payments more convenient and secure.

The innovative tool lets users approve UPI transactions by simply scanning their fingerprint or face, eliminating the need for a PIN.

This makes it easier and quicker for people to send money, pay merchants, or check balances on the go.

A 1st in India
Industry innovation

Amazon Pay is one of the first payment service providers in India to introduce this biometric-based authentication for UPI payments.

The feature can be used for transactions up to ₹5,000 across all Amazon Pay UPI services.

These include sending money to others, scanning and paying at stores, merchant payments, and balance checks.

A secure solution for digital payments
Security assurance

The biometric authentication is linked to the user's device, adding an extra layer of security as biometric data can't be shared.

As per Amazon Pay, early adoption data shows strong user acceptance with over 90% of customers opting for this facility for eligible peer-to-peer UPI transactions.

The company says this tool is aimed at reducing transaction friction and enabling faster one-handed payments.

A user-friendly solution
User feedback

Girish Krishnan, Director of Payments at Amazon India, said the launch is aimed at simplifying everyday digital payments while keeping them secure.

He added that customer feedback has been positive so far, with many highlighting the speed and ease of use of this new feature.

Currently, the biometric authentication facility is available only for Android users.
