Kolkata Knight Riders made full use of their strong purse at the IPL 2026 mini auction. Entering the auction in Abu Dhabi with INR 64.4 crore, the highest among all teams, and 13 slots to fill, KKR were always expected to dominate proceedings. They lived up to that billing by securing the two biggest buys of the night.

The headline signing was Australia all-rounder Cameron Green, snapped up for INR 25.20 crore, making him the most expensive overseas player in IPL auction history. KKR boosted their bowling attack by signing Sri Lankan speedster Matheesha Pathirana for INR 18 crore. They further strengthened their pace attack by picking up Mustafizur Rahman for INR 9.2 crore during the accelerated rounds.

With quality options across departments, KKR now has the good headache of selecting their best XI. Overall, the three-time champions spent smartly and aggressively, positioning themselves as serious contenders for the IPL 2026 title.

Kolkata Knight Riders’ top order for IPL 2026 will witness a new opening combination. After struggling with an unsettled opening pair last year, head coach Abhishek Nayar has confirmed that Sunil Narine will not open the batting this season, making the way for captain Ajinkya Rahane to partner with New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Finn Allen at the top.

Allen’s attacking approach makes him the ideal powerplay player, capable of putting bowlers under pressure from the very first over and strengthening KKR’s scoring rate. At the other end, Rahane will be wearing the captain's hat and anchoring the innings.

The top three are further strengthened by Cameron Green, who is set to bat at No.3. The INR 25.5 crore all-rounder is set to be a crucial part of Kolkata's batting order.

Middle-Order: Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Rinku Singh

Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Rinku Singh are set to play crucial roles in KKR’s middle order. Raghuvanshi has been backed by KKR for a couple of years, and the youngster is expected to bat at No.4. The right-handed batter is comfortable against both pace and spin, making him an ideal fit at this position.

Meanwhile, Rinku Singh remains KKR’s most trusted finisher. His iconic lower-middle order in recent seasons has made him an instant fit in the XI. However, after an inconsistent campaign last year, the onus will be on Rinku to get back to his best touch, especially with Andre Russell no longer in the setup.

All-Rounders: Ramandeep Singh, Sunil Narine

With Andre Russell gone, Ramandeep Singh is set to play a big role for KKR this year. The three-time champions lack a genuine seam-bowling all-rounder who can bat at No. 6 or 7 and chip in with a couple of overs. Ramandeep can partially fill that void, especially as a lower-order hitter.

On the other hand, Sunil Narine, who will not be seen at the opening position, will be coming down the order as a pinch hitter. Despite having success at the top, the KKR head coach confirmed his demotion, forcing him to focus more on bowling. With the ball, the veteran will pair up with Varun Chakaravarthy to control the middle overs.

Kolkata Knight Riders head into IPL 2026 with a bowling attack that will witness Harshit Rana and Vaibhav Arora taking the new-ball duties. Behind them, the Kolkata-based team also has a solid depth with Akash Deep, Kartik Tyagi, and Umran Malik, giving multiple pace options depending on conditions.

The biggest upgrade, however, is Matheesha Pathirana. Bought for INR 18 crore, the Sri Lankan is expected to be KKR’s go-to death-overs specialist, a role that hurt them in previous seasons. If Pathirana struggles, Mustafizur Rahman will be brought in. In the spin department, Varun Chakravarthy, alongside Sunil Narine, forms one of the most threatening duos in IPL 2026.

KKR Predicted Playing XI for IPL 2026:

Finn Allen (wk), Ajinkya Rahane (c), Cameron Green, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh, Sunil Narine, Harshit Rana, Vaibhav Arora, Varun Chakaravarthy, Matheesha Pathirana
