Everyone has made plans to enjoy the long weekend of Christmas and the New Year. Many have even taken leave from work, but are unsure how to travel. Now, there's no need to worry. The Railways have launched a series of special trains to keep your holiday spirit alive. A notification for 244 special trips has been issued across eight railway zones of the country. Let's tell you more about it.

What is the Indian Railways' plan?

It is noteworthy that, considering the increasing rush of passengers during Christmas and New Year, Indian Railways has planned to operate special trains. Under this plan, a total of 244 special trips have been notified across eight railway zones of the country so far. According to railway officials, more special trains will be announced in the coming days, keeping the demand in mind.

How many trains will run in each zone?

To manage the crowd during Christmas and New Year, Central Railway (CR) will run 76 trips, Northern Railway (NR) 8 trips, South Central Railway (SCR) 26 trips, South East Central Railway (SECR) 24 trips, South Western Railway (SWR) 28 trips, North Western Railway (NWR) 6 trips, Western Railway (WR) 72 trips, and North East Frontier Railway (NFR) 4 trips. This totals 244 trips.

Special planning for these routes

The Railways say that, considering the heavy demand from passengers on the busy Mumbai-Goa (Konkan) corridor during the New Year, daily and weekly special trains are being run between Mumbai CSMT/LTT and Karmali and Madgaon. These trains have been provided with additional sleeper and seating coaches, with stoppages at major stations.

These routes are also very important.

In addition, special trains are being run on the Mumbai-Nagpur, Pune-Sangli, and other important routes in Maharashtra, which will help reduce crowding on regular trains. The railways say that special trains are also being operated on busy routes connecting Delhi, Howrah, Lucknow, and surrounding cities in North and East India, providing relief to long-distance passengers.

Gearing up for the South as well

Additional services have been introduced in South and Central India, connecting Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mangaluru, and other cities. The railways have stated that special trains such as CSMT-Karmali, LTT-Thiruvananthapuram, Pune-Sangli, and CSMT-Nagpur are being operated with multiple trips to easily handle the increasing number of passengers.
