The Railways has implemented a new rule for rail passengers, which brings significant changes regarding digital tickets. Now, simply displaying unreserved tickets (excluding e-tickets and MT-CUT) issued through UTS, ATVM, or counters on a mobile screen will no longer be sufficient. Passengers will be required to carry a physical copy of the ticket. This step by the Railways has been taken to prevent fraud.

Indeed, artificial intelligence is no longer just a means of simplifying work; its misuse has also raised questions about the Railways' security system. Following the recent case of fake train tickets generated with the help of AI, the Railways has increased vigilance across the country and tightened its verification system.

AI-generated tickets, with one to seven passengers!
The matter came to light when, during a check on the Jaipur route, some students were traveling using mobile tickets. At first glance, the tickets appeared to be genuine—the QR code, travel details, and fare all appeared correct. But when the TC investigated more closely, a shocking truth emerged. In fact, the students had edited a single unreserved ticket using an AI tool and listed seven passengers. Meaning, one ticket, seven passengers traveling.

Following this incident , the Railways has issued an alert in all divisions,
including the Jhansi-Gwalior division, and in Madhya Pradesh. A special TTE app is now being mandatorily installed on the mobile phones and tablets of TTEs and TCs, allowing for instant digital ticket verification.

Now this is how fake tickets will be caught.
Railways have given clear instructions that in case of doubt, the UTS number and color code will be checked by scanning the QR code. This will immediately help in knowing whether the ticket is genuine or the result of digital manipulation.

Railway officials have also clarified that unreserved tickets (except E-Tickets and M-Tickets) issued through UTS, ATVM or counter must be physically present with the passenger. Tickets shown only on mobile will not be valid.
