A BBC News presenter has shared why she decided to throw her notes across the table at the end of a report. Maryam Moshiri found herself in another viral moment as the news programme was coming to a close earlier in the week.
She shuffled her papers furiously, as the camera panned out on her, before throwing them across the desk sending them flying everywhere. At the time, viewers were absolutely baffled and thought that she might have been feeling angry about working in the run-up to Christmas. On X/Twitter, one fan wrote: "Clearly didn't want to be in the office on Christmas week". Another added: " The @BBCWorld presenter Maryam Moshiri was ready for the shift to end as this moment was caught live on air. Party time," while a third said: "Imagine if her orders were to burn after reading."
Now, responding to the many confused comments, Maryam has shared exactly why she did it. Taking to her own X/Twitter account, she wrote: "When your director tells you to ' shuffle your papers' and you go the extra mile for him."
A fan admired her honesty, writing in the comments: "Maryam, this is exactly why you're the best in the business at what you do," to which she replied: "I mean- not sure shuffling the papers like this will win me the RTS or the Pulitzer Prize... but I won't stop trying!"
It's not the first time that Maryam has had to explain her actions. A couple of years back, she apologised after she was seen opening the programme with a middle finger and a smug face.
In the now viral clip, she quickly lowered her hand and blanked her expression before quickly beginning to read out headlines, but fans at home were quick to notice the huge blunder.
The newsreader later took to social media to apologise as she said that she had been joking around with the team, pretending to count down using her fingers.
"When we got to 1 I turned [my] finger around as a joke and did not realise that this would be caught on camera," she wrote.
"It was a private joke with the team and I'm so sorry it went out on air! It was not my intention for this to happen and I'm sorry if I offended or upset anyone.
"I wasn't 'flipping the bird' at viewers or even a person really. It was a silly joke that was meant for a small number of my mates," she said, adding a face palm emoji.
