The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has made significant changes to the rules governing automatic payments, or 'recurring payments,' for online services. It's often observed that when subscribing to OTT platforms, music apps, or e-commerce websites, we unknowingly grant permission for autopay, resulting in monthly deductions from our accounts. Often, stopping or tracking these payments becomes very complicated for the average person. To eliminate this problem and bring transparency, NPCI has launched a central portal. Now, consumers will be able to view and manage all their auto-payments from a single location.

According to a circular issued on October 7, 2025, this entire framework has been made more transparent. By December 31, 2025, all banks and apps connected to the UPI network must fully implement these new rules. Until then, existing auto-payments will continue without interruption, but from the new year, customers will have a completely new and secure experience.

What is the main objective of the new central portal launched by NPCI?

A. To provide convenience only for merchants

B. To view and manage all auto-payments in one place

C. To offer discounts on music apps

D. To facilitate payments only for OTT platforms

All auto-payments will be visible on the app.

According to a Times of India report, for the convenience of the common man, all active autopay mandates can now be viewed in the 'Manage Bank Account' section of any UPI app. People often forget which apps they have set up automatic payments for, but now there will be no need to go to different apps. Everything will be visible in one place. NPCI has also curbed companies that try to lure customers or force them to switch apps. No app will be able to force a customer to change their platform by offering cashback or sending frequent notifications.

Portability Feature

NPCI has also provided customers with a 'portability' feature. Just as you can port your mobile number from one company to another, you will now be able to transfer your recurring mandates from one UPI app to another. In addition, merchants have also been given the facility to update their UPI ID or change their payment gateway, without requiring customers to set up the mandate again. For security reasons, NPCI has made it mandatory that UPI PIN authentication be required for any changes or porting of a mandate.
