Stephen Fry, 68, is a household name in the UK, renowned for his roles in beloved classics like Blackadder, The Hobbit and QI. However, many may not be aware that this seasoned actor and presenter first graced our screens on University Challenge several decades ago.
Representing Queen's College, Cambridge in the 1980 edition of University Challenge, a 23-year-old Stephen showcased the intellectual prowess he is now celebrated for nationwide. His team advanced to the final round of the esteemed contest. Images and footage unearthed from the original competition revealed a youthful, clean-shaven Stephen donning a traditional suit and tie. The resemblance between his younger self and his present-day appearance is strikingly evident. Stephen has aged gracefully, maintaining his signature look - smartly dressed and clean-shaven.
Over his illustrious career, Stephen has evolved before our eyes, transitioning from his debut on University Challenge to an array of diverse roles.
He has served on the board of Norwich FC, penned technology columns for newspapers, and even had a virtual meeting with Prince William for Comic Relief.
His most recent work includes being a Faithful on BBC's game of deception, The Celebrity Traitors. He was eventually banished from the Scottish castle after being suspected by his peers, despite being a major figure himself, after a fellow Faithful came up with the "big dog theory".
Fry's participation stemmed from getting hooked on the regular series, and he was praised for his sharp observations and engagement with the game's deception.
In his personal life, Stephen has been happily married to Elliott Spencer, 38, since 2015. The couple married at a register office in Dereham, Norfolk.
At the time, the former QI host wrote on X: "Gosh. @ElliottGSpencer and I go into a room as two people, sign a book and leave as one. Amazing."
He also boasts friendships with notable figures such as Prince Charles and Hugh Laurie.
