Can we put a cap on a baby while sleeping? As winter approaches, parents' worries increase. Young children cannot express verbally whether they are feeling cold or not. This raises many questions in parents' minds. One of these questions is whether a baby should wear socks and a cap while sleeping. Or will the baby catch a cold if they sleep without a cap and socks? Renowned pediatrician Nimisha Arora has shared a video on this topic on her Instagram handle. Let's find out the answers to these questions from the doctor.

What does the pediatrician say?
Dr. Nimisha explains that children's bodies are different from adults'. Children have more brown fat, which naturally generates heat inside the body. In addition, children have a faster metabolism. Therefore, at night, a child's body is often warmer than an adult's.

Is it necessary to put a cap on a baby while sleeping?
The pediatrician says that it is not necessary to put a cap on a baby while sleeping. On the contrary, doing so can be harmful to the child. A child's heat regulation happens through their head. That is, the body temperature is controlled through the head. If the head is covered, the body heat cannot escape, and the child may overheat. Also, the cap might slip and cover the baby's nose and mouth while sleeping, which can cause breathing difficulties. Therefore, avoid putting a cap on your baby while they are sleeping.

Should a baby wear socks while sleeping?
Answering this question, the doctor says that wearing socks completely depends on the room temperature. If the room is very cold, then light socks can be put on the baby. But if a heater is running in the room or the room is already warm, then there is no need to put on socks.

The doctor says that it is important to protect children from the cold, but covering them excessively can be dangerous. Therefore, do not put a hat on your child while they are sleeping, and only put socks on them depending on the room temperature.
