New Delhi 01 January 2026: The state government has taken an important decision with the aim of strengthening the cooperative structure in Gujarat and providing banking facilities to the farmers of Gujarat.

In the cabinet meeting chaired by Bhupendra Patel, in-principle approval has been given for the formation of 9 new District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCB) in the state. After the cabinet meeting, the spokesperson said that this decision has been taken under the guidance of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah. These new banks will be established on the basis of ‘Approach Note’ presented by NABARD to increase the coverage of rural co-operative banks.

Splitting of existing banks, independent banks in new districts

By dividing the big district co-operative banks of the state, separate district intermediate co-operative banks will operate in the new districts.

Existing Bank → New Banari District Bank

Panchmahal Bank → Aravalli District Bank

Sabarkantha Bank → Aravalli District Bank

Surat Bank → Tapi District Bank

Vadodara Bank → Chhotaudepur District Bank

Jamnagar Bank → Devbhumi Dwarka District Bank

Junagadh Bank → Porbandar District Bank

Kheda Bank → Anand District Bank

Valsad Bank → Dangs and Navsari District Bank

What will be the benefit to the farmers?

Easy financing: Since new districts have their own independent banks, loan and other financing processes will become easier.

Facility at local level: Now farmers do not have to travel long distances to the offices of big districts for banking work.

Boost to rural economy: Increasing financial transactions at the local level will strengthen the economy of villages and districts.

What is the further procedure?

After the approval of the State Cabinet, the State Government will now send this proposal to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) through NABARD. After getting the final approval and license from RBI, all these new district intermediate co-operative banks will be formally operational.

This decision of the state government is being considered an important and long-term step in the interest of the cooperative sector and farmers in Gujarat.
