To give a new dimension to connectivity in Delhi-NCR, the extension of Urban Extension Road-2 (UER-2) will no longer be limited to West Delhi only. Now a big plan has been prepared to extend this corridor starting from Alipur in Delhi to Noida and Ghaziabad. This expansion will not only provide relief to the people of Delhi, but will also make it very easy for vehicles coming from Haryana and Rajasthan to reach Noida. This new corridor will pave the way for a faster, direct and alternative connectivity to the entire NCR by connecting the eastern side as the ‘Third Ring Road’ of Delhi.

75.7 km long 6-lane access-controlled expressway as Delhi’s 3rd Ring Road

The current structure of the UER-2 project is extremely robust. It is currently a 6-lane access-controlled expressway approximately 75.7 kilometers long. It starts from Alipore (NH-44) and passes through major localities like Rohini, Mundka, Najafgarh, Dwarka and ends near IGI Airport on NH-48 at Mahipalpur. The route directly connects Delhi’s three major highways—NH-44, NH-9 and NH-48, thereby reducing traffic congestion in the hinterland of the city.

Detailed outline of expansion from Alipore across Yamuna to Tronica City and Noida

As per the government plan, now a new 17 km long road is being constructed from Alipur crossing Yamuna to Tronica City (towards Ghaziabad). This link road will connect Delhi-Dehradun Expressway and UER-2. Additionally, there are plans to lay a network of new link roads from the eastern bank of the Yamuna to the Noida-Greater Noida Bandh Expressway. This will provide uninterrupted connection from Jaitpur and Badarpur areas directly to Vishwakarma Road and Expressway of Noida.

Phased construction: Ghaziabad Ring Road in the first phase and connection to Noida-FNG corridor in the second.

This ambitious project will be constructed in different phases. Under the first phase, about 17 km long stretch will be developed from Alipore to North-East Delhi and Tronica City, so that traffic coming from Haryana will be able to directly reach Ghaziabad Ring Road. Meanwhile, in the second phase, about 45 kilometers of new and upgraded roads will be connected to Noida, Greater Noida and Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad (FNG) corridor. As soon as it is completed, direct connectivity between West Delhi and Gurugram will be established with Noida.

Vehicles coming from Haryana-Rajasthan will get direct route without getting stuck in the traffic jam of Delhi.

Interstate travelers will get the biggest benefit from the expansion of UER-2. This road has already reduced the journey between Singhu Border and IGI Airport from about two hours to about 40 minutes. After the expansion, the same high speed will be available towards Noida and Ghaziabad also. Vehicles coming from Haryana and Rajasthan via Delhi-Jaipur, Delhi-Rohtak or Delhi-Sonipat highways will now have the option to directly take the Noida-Ghaziabad corridor without getting stuck in the internal traffic of Delhi, which will significantly reduce both pollution and traffic jams in the city.

The journey from Noida and Greater Noida to IGI Airport will now be completed in minutes, not hours.

The completion of this project will provide the greatest relief to the residents of Noida and Greater Noida. At present, it sometimes takes one and a half to two hours to go from Noida to the airport, but after the expansion of UER-2, this travel time is expected to reduce to just 45 to 60 minutes. This new connectivity will not only save time but will also completely transform the travel experience in NCR by reducing fuel consumption.
