Bhubaneswar: Odisha is experiencing the winter chill with a sharp drop in the night temperature, accompanied by persistent dense fog across multiple districts.


According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cold wave conditions may continue in the state for another three days. Yellow warning has been issued for isolated pockets in districts of Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Balasore, Khurda, Angul, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sonepur and Nabarangpur till January 9 morning. Cold wave conditions may continue in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Sambalpur during the subsequent 24 hours.


The weather agency has also warned of dense fog at isolated places in Boudh, Nayagarh and Koraput till January 8 morning.


While the minimum temperature is unlikely to witness any large change in the minimum temperature during the next three days, it will rise by 2-3°C during the subsequent 2 days and gradually fall thereafter, it added.


In the last 24 hours, the mercury plummeted below 10°C at 22 places in Odisha. G Udayagiri in Kandhamal was the coldest place in the state at 3°C, followed by Semiliguda in Koraput at 4.1°C, Phulbani, also in Kandhamal, at 5°C, Rourkela at 5.1°C while Jharsuguda shivered at 5.4°C. The minimum temperatures in places like Daringbadi (7°C), Kirei (7.4°C), Keonjhar (7.6°C), Chiplima in Sambalpur (7.7°C), Sundargarh (7.8°C), Bhawanipatna (7.8°C) and Angul (8°C) hovered between 7 and 8°C.


The minimum temperature dropped sharply to 9.6°C in Cuttack. The state capital Bhubaneswar also experienced the coldest night of the ongoing winter season at 10.2°C, a fall of 7.2 degrees in three days.
