Hrithik Roshan’s 52nd birthday

Mumbai: Today, on January 10, 2026, famous Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan is celebrating his 52nd birthday. One of the fittest and charming stars of Indian cinema, Hrithik has always inspired his fans with his looks, acting and dancing skills. But he has a special physical feature that makes him even more special, that is an extra thumb on his right hand.

Hrithik’s congenital extra thumb

Hrithik was born with an extra thumb, which is medically called polydactyly. During his childhood, doctors advised a simple surgery to remove this thumb. Although, it was not medically dangerous and the operation was simple, Hrithik’s family decided not to remove it.

Reason for not undergoing surgery

Hrithik’s mother believed that the extra thumb was not a problem but a gift from God. Considering it special, he opposed its removal. His father, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, also supported the decision, believing that unnecessary surgeries could have a negative impact on the child’s self-confidence.

Extra thumb and confidence

Because of this decision, Hrithik’s extra thumb still exists today. Early in her career, she sometimes felt shy about it, but with time, she learned to accept it as a part of her identity. Now, he does not consider it a weakness, but a symbol of his uniqueness.

Why is the thumb hidden in films?

In films, Hrithik’s extra thumb is rarely seen. During shooting, filmmakers use smart camera angles, hand positions and VFX to hide it. When it is necessary to show a hand, the scene is carefully framed and helped to hide it in the final edit.

Hrithik started as a lead actor with ‘Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai’ and went on to give successful films like ‘Jodha Akbar’, ‘Dhoom 2’ and ‘Krrish’. His extra thumb never became a hindrance in his career. In fact, he doesn’t even try to hide it in his real life. Apart from acting, Hrithik is also appreciated for his amazing dancing skills and discipline. Today, Hrithik Roshan’s extra thumb has become a symbol of his confidence, personality and strength.
