Delhi all-rounder Ayushi Soni of Gujarat Giants became the first player in the history of the Women’s Premier League to get ‘retired out’.

The decision was taken during Tuesday’s WPL 2026 match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Ayushi, who replaced an injured Anushka Sharma in the playing XI for her debut, was retired out for Bharti Fulmali during GG’s innings. Ayushi scored a 14-ball 11 before she was brought off. Bharti went on to smack a 15-ball 36.

Ayushi, a pace-bowling all-rounder, was signed by the Giants for a base price of Rs. 30 lakh in the auction. In 2021, she made her international debut during a T20I match between India and South Africa.

This was the 38th instance of a player getting ‘retired out’ in women’s T20s.
