Hollin, a Taiwanese bubble tea brand, has seemingly closed most of its outlets in Singapore, except the one in the Punggol Plaza mall.

Before the shutdowns, Hollin operated at least four other outlets across Singapore, including locations at SingPost Centre, The Woodleigh Mall, Suntec City and One Holland Village.

As of Monday, those stores had ceased operations and were no longer listed in their respective malls’ online directories, The Straits Times reported.

The brand’s social media pages are no longer available while its website has been made private.

AsiaOne reported the remaining outlet continues to operate as usual, although a spokesperson declined to comment further on the situation.

Few customers visited the outlet on Tuesday morning despite the crowd at Punggol Plaza, but many orders were being placed through its online delivery system.

Known for its flavored pearls in varieties such as chocolate, matcha and lychee, Hollin opened its first Singapore outlet in Toa Payoh in 2018 before expanding across the city-state.

The original store closed in late 2023, followed by the Plaza Singapura outlet last April. Both closures were announced on the brand’s social media pages.

Online, some Reddit users voiced concern over the chain’s sudden closures and its drinks.

While many praised the brand’s distinctive pearls, opinions on its tea were divided. Some users said the drinks at certain locations were well made while those at other outlets were described as watered down.

Some likened the situation to that of Gong Cha, which exited the city-state last October, though that chain later said it would return this year.

Several commenters also pointed out the intense competition in Singapore’s bubble tea market posed by brands such as Koi, Chagee, Luckin and Mixue.

“Way too much bubble tea in tiny Singapore,” one user wrote.
