Gas cylinders are used daily in millions of homes across the country. But it is important to know a few things while using a gas cylinder. Such as the expiry date of the cylinder, which many people overlook or are unaware of.

Let us tell you that if the cylinder has expired, the risk of leakage, blast, or fire increases manifold. This small negligence can lead to a major accident. Therefore, it is very important to know whether the gas cylinder in your home has expired. You can find out whether your cylinder has expired or not from the comfort of your home.

How to check the expiry date of the cylinder?

The expiry date of the LPG cylinder is written on the metal strip at the top of the cylinder. You must have seen markings like A-28, B-29, C-26, or D-27 many times. This is actually the identification of the cylinder's validity. The alphabet indicates the month, and the number after it indicates the year.

A means January to March, B means April to June, C means July to September, and D means October to December. If D-27 is written on a cylinder, it means that the cylinder will expire between October and December of 2027. Similarly, if B-29 is written, it will remain valid between April and June of 2029. By understanding this code, you can check the expiry date of your cylinder yourself.

Why is an expired cylinder dangerous? An expired gas cylinder isn't just outdated on paper; it can also be a safety hazard. Over time, the metal of the cylinder weakens, the valve can malfunction, and its ability to withstand internal pressure decreases. Such cylinders increase the risk of gas leaks, fires, or explosions.

If the date stamped on your cylinder has passed, do not use it. Contact your gas agency immediately and get the cylinder replaced. Make it a habit to check the date on the cylinder every time you receive a delivery. This simple check can keep your home and family safe.
