A high street brand that has been open for more than four decades has announced the closure of one of its shops, leaving many customers disappointed. Fizz Fashion, which started as a market stall in the 80s, announced the closure of its Shaw store. The retailer is just one of many facing struggles as a result of the blow the high street has taken over the last few years.
Elizabeth Jackson, the co-owner of the branch, shared how disappointed, saying that it was "sad" that the store will be closing after many years of trading, also pointing out the struggles brands are facing in the current economic climate.
As well as the co-owner, many Shaw residents also expressed their disappointment at the closure while reminiscing about their shopping memories over the years, reports The Oldham Times.
Linda Green commented: "This is sad! I used to buy clothes there all the time when I lived in Shaw in the 90s".
Euan Gray wrote: "Fond memories going in there on a weekly basis with my mum when I was a little lad, might have to go one last time in memory."
Others shared how the fashion store never failed them when it came to finding an outfit, with Velinda Stamp writing: "Awww what a shame, love Fizz always find something I like in there. It will be missed."
Ms Jackson revealed that Fizz Closure in Shaw was also partly due to a decline in footfall on the high street, noting that the closure of banks and the development of more supermarkets have impacted town centres.
Other commenters also shared similar opinions, including Charles Allan Tarett, who wrote: "I bet far more people buy clothes from Asda Shaw than from town centre clothes shops. We've all smelt the coffee and know that our shopping habits are decimating the variety of shops across the length and breadth of Great Britain."
Daniel McLintock also commented: "Never thought I'd see it. Fizz has been around in Shaw for what seems like forever. The high street is dying in front of us."
Ms Jackson confirmed that Fizz's two stores in Hyde and Wilmslow, Cheshire, will remain open.
