‘Ground Frost’ in Purulia’s Ayodhya Hills. The dew falling in the winter night is accumulating ice in the morning! Even on Friday morning, cars parked outside a private tourism project there were still covered with snow. That picture is viral at the moment. There is a lot of fuss about it. Many are comparing Purulia with Daringbari, known as ‘Kashmir of Odisha’. However, the traders are optimistic that this game of nature will increase the attraction of tourists towards Purulia.
A few days ago, the first viral image of grass, ice on the roof of the car went viral on social media. Seeing this scene, tourists are packing their bags and flocking to Purulia. Even in January, the pressure of booking tourist accommodation in the Ayodhya Hills is a smile on the face of traders. Amit Pal, a resident of Rishara, Hooghly, leader of a private tourism project in the area, said, “We first saw this picture in Sitakunda area last month i.e. on December 29. The new year is going on. Tourists are also very happy. Again, the picture was caught on our camera on Friday. This accumulation of snow on the tourist map of Purulia has now become one of the topics of discussion.”

Severe winter warning remained in place in western Purulia from 15 to 17 January. Purulia recorded a minimum of 5.5 degrees Celsius on Friday. Ayodhya hills are about 2,200 feet above sea level, so the minimum temperature in Purulia drops by at least a degree or two. And this Sitakunda area of Ayodhya Hilltop is two-three degrees lower than the minimum of the district. So this vast area is pleasant in the morning even in summer. There is a rock-bound cold water spring here. Clear and cool water constantly comes out from under the ground. That is why the mercury is quite low in this area during winter. The Integrated Area Development Board under the Panchayat and Rural Development Department of the state has identified Sitakunda as ‘Autoflow Specially for Students of Anthropology’ in its tourism brochure.
