Toyota Corolla Cross Safety Rating: Toyota’s SUV Corolla Cross, known worldwide for its reliability and strength, did not live up to expectations this time. In the recently released Global NCAP crash test report, this vehicle has received only a 2-star rating for adult safety. This test is from Global NCAP Safer Cars for Africa This was done under the campaign, the results of which have shocked the car buyers.

Low standard safety features became a major reason

According to Global NCAP, many important safety features are not provided as standard in the Africa-specific Toyota Corolla Cross. This is the reason why the safety rating of this vehicle appears different in different countries. While some markets offer better security, the African model saw reductions.

Which safety features were found and what was missing?

Features like front airbag, knee airbag, side chest airbag, seat belt pre-tensioner, load limiter, seat belt reminder and ESC have been provided in Toyota Corolla Cross. But side head curtain airbags, side head (thorax) and side pelvis airbags are either not present or kept as optional. Apart from this, systems like pedestrian protection, speed assist and lane assist are also not standard.

How was the performance in front and side crash test?

In adult safety, this SUV got 29.27 points out of 34. In the front crash test, head and neck protection for the driver and front passenger was good, while chest protection was average. Knee protection was found to be limited as was the risk of injury behind the dashboard. The bodyshell of the car remained stable, but the footwell area turned out to be weak. The head, stomach and pelvis got good protection in side impact, but due to lack of side pole test, this area got zero points.

Child safety and global NCAP warning

In child safety, Corolla Cross received a 3-star rating and scored 33 points out of 49. An 18-month-old child was well protected in a front impact, but a 3-year-old child’s head protection was weak. Global NCAP has clearly said that companies should adopt similar safety standards in every country, so that the value of life is not decided by looking at the market.
