The month of Phalguna holds special significance in Sanatan Dharma. Worship and charity are highly recommended during this month. According to the Vedic calendar, Phalguna Amavasya (new moon) will be observed on February 17th. This is also the day of the first solar eclipse of 2026.  Worship and eating are prohibited during a solar eclipse. Therefore, in this article, we will tell you what not to do during the solar eclipse, whether it will be visible in India, and what the duration of the inauspicious period (Sutak Kaal) will be.

Will the solar eclipse be visible in India?
This time, the shadow of a solar eclipse will fall on Phalguna Amavasya. On the day of Amavasya, rituals for ancestors (Shraddha and Tarpana) are performed. This brings peace to the souls of the ancestors and ensures their blessings remain with the family members. Although there will be a solar eclipse on Phalguna Amavasya, this eclipse will not be visible in India, and therefore, the Sutak period will not be applicable.

Solar Eclipse 2026 Date and Time
The first solar eclipse of 2026 is going to occur on February 17th. This eclipse will begin at 5:26 PM on February 17th. It will end at 7:57 PM. According to astrologers, this eclipse will affect people of all zodiac signs.
