Unexpected Early Arrival Brings Medical Emergency

Jonas explained that the couple had initially expected their daughter to be born later in the year. However, their plans changed dramatically when they received sudden news that the birth would take place much earlier than anticipated. Malti was born through surrogacy, and the situation quickly became critical when she arrived significantly underweight and showing alarming physical signs.

According to Jonas, their daughter weighed only one pound and eleven ounces at birth. He recalled the moment vividly, saying her condition appeared extremely serious, with her skin showing a purple tint shortly after delivery. The family rushed to ensure she received immediate medical attention, as doctors and specialists stepped in to stabilise the newborn.

Intensive Medical Care and Life-Saving Intervention

Medical professionals moved swiftly to support Malti’s breathing and overall health. Jonas praised the neonatal intensive care unit team, describing their efforts as life-saving. He shared that the hospital staff worked rapidly to revive the infant and provide specialised care, including advanced respiratory support and constant monitoring.

Malti remained under medical supervision in the neonatal intensive care unit for nearly 100 days. Jonas described that period as emotionally draining and filled with uncertainty, as the couple faced daily concerns about their daughter’s condition and long-term health prospects.

Parenting Challenges During Pandemic Restrictions

The singer also spoke about the unique challenges brought by the global COVID-19 pandemic, which added another layer of difficulty to an already stressful situation. Due to hospital safety regulations, Jonas and his wife had to divide their time at the hospital, taking turns in 12-hour shifts over several months.

He described the experience as emotionally taxing, noting how they often crossed paths briefly while exchanging responsibilities at the hospital. The demanding schedule and strict safety measures made it difficult for the couple to spend time together while supporting their newborn’s recovery journey.

Tribute to Dedicated NICU Medical Staff

Jonas expressed deep gratitude toward the nurses and doctors who cared for Malti throughout her hospital stay. He described the NICU staff as compassionate professionals whose dedication and expertise played a vital role in saving his daughter’s life.

He highlighted how their tireless efforts offered reassurance during a period filled with anxiety and fear. Jonas acknowledged that witnessing their commitment left a lasting impression on him and his family, reinforcing his appreciation for healthcare workers who support families during critical medical situations.

Reflecting on Malti’s Growth and Life Journey

Now that Malti has grown older, Jonas said he and his wife have begun sharing the story of her early life with her. While he believes she may not remember the medical challenges she faced as an infant, he feels that her joyful personality reflects a strong and grateful spirit.

Jonas added that becoming a father and watching his daughter grow has transformed his outlook on life. He described each day with her as meaningful, noting that her enthusiasm and curiosity remind him of the remarkable journey she overcame during her earliest days.

Family Milestone Since Malti’s Birth

Jonas and his wife, actress Priyanka Chopra, welcomed Malti through surrogacy in January 2022, marking a major milestone in their personal lives. Since then, the couple has occasionally shared glimpses of their parenting journey while maintaining privacy around their daughter’s upbringing.

Their experience has also drawn attention to the importance of neonatal medical care and the emotional challenges families often face during complicated births. By speaking openly about their story, Jonas has helped shed light on the resilience of children born prematurely and the dedication of medical teams supporting them.
