Bageshwar: A serious accident occurred during the National Paragliding Competition in Bageshwar when two pilots lost control while landing. Both sustained injuries and had to be referred to a higher medical center by air ambulance.

On Friday, paraglider Ranjeet Singh Chauhan from Tehri Garhwal was flying well as part of the Uttarakhand team. However, during landing, he lost his balance and fell on his back. The second injured pilot was Naveen Parihar, who is also a current district panchayat member. He was injured after landing on his feet in an uncontrolled manner. Both pilots suffered injuries to their back and legs, raising concerns about their condition.

MLA visits injured pilots

Upon hearing about the incident, local MLA Suresh Gadhiya visited the Kapkot CHC to inquire about the well-being of the injured pilots. He spoke with doctors and assured the families that all necessary medical support would be provided.

Medical response

Dr. Prateek Sharma, who treated the injured pilots at CHC Kapkot, confirmed that both had sustained injuries and required specialized care. After informing the District Magistrate, arrangements were made to transfer them to a higher medical center via air ambulance. Dr. Sharma added that both patients were referred to an orthopedist for further treatment.

Safety concerns in paragliding

The incident has once again highlighted the risks involved in adventure sports like paragliding. While competitions attract skilled pilots from across the country, landing remains one of the most challenging aspects of the sport. Organizers usually deploy medical teams at such events to ensure immediate response in case of accidents.

Incident has raised awareness about the importance of strict safety protocol

Despite the accident, the National Paragliding Competition continues in Bageshwar, with safety measures being reviewed. The injured pilots are receiving advanced medical care, and officials are monitoring their recovery. The incident has raised awareness about the importance of strict safety protocols in adventure sports to prevent such mishaps in the future.
