EPFO Rule: A portion of the salary of employees in India is deposited every month into an Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) account. The government currently provides interest at the rate of 8.25%. This is why EPF is considered the safest and most reliable investment for retirement. However, many people wonder: if they leave their job at the age of 40 or 45 and don't withdraw their PF funds, will they continue to accrue interest, or will it stop? If you have this question, this article may be helpful. Let's find out whether interest on PF continues after leaving the job.

What are the EPFO rules?

According to EPFO rules, if you leave your job before the age of 58 and don't withdraw your PF funds, your account does not become closed or inactive. Interest continues to accrue until you reach 58.

To put it simply, suppose you quit your job at the age of 40 and leave your PF funds in your account, you'll continue to earn interest on that amount for the next 18 years, until you reach 58. This strengthens your retirement fund.

What happens after retirement?

If you retire at 58 and don't withdraw immediately, your money remains safe. Your EPF account continues to earn interest for three years, until you reach 61. After 61, the account becomes inactive, and interest accruals stop. However, your deposited funds remain completely safe.

Is it right to withdraw early?

Many people withdraw their PF funds as soon as they leave their job, thinking the account will automatically close or interest will stop accruing. But this isn't true. If you don't withdraw, the funds remain safe and continue to earn the fixed interest. Therefore, avoid unnecessary PF withdrawals.

Easy PF Withdrawal Process

If you need to withdraw money from your PF account, here's how:

Log in to the EPFO website using your UAN.

Update your KYC information, such as Aadhaar, PAN, and bank details.

Next, go to 'Online Services' and select the 'Claim' option.

Verify your bank account.

Select the withdrawal reason.

You will then receive an OTP on your mobile number. Confirm it and submit your application.

The money usually arrives in your bank account within 7 to 8 days.
