New Delhi: Avtar Singh, a Sikh man who was kidnappedon Tuesday from a gurudwara in California’s Tracy, has been found dead. The message about his death was shared on Facebook by Damdami Taksal chief Baba Harnam Singh Dhuma. The deceased worked at the Taksal Gurudwara.

Body found, confirms Harnam Singh Dhuma

Dhuma in his Facebook post confirmed that Singh’s body was recovered on Saturday evening. Avtar worked as a cook at the Taksal-controlled Guru Nanak Parkash Gurudwara in Tracy, California. He had been working there for quite a few years now.


Talking about the deceased, Dhuma said that “Avtar earlier served at the Taksal headquarters at Gurdwara Gurdarshan Parkash, Chowk Mehta for several years, before moving to the Tracy branch of the Gurudwara.”


Singh lived at the gurudwara itself. The San Joaquin County police have launched an investigation into the death of the man, said a report in the Times of India.  Talking about the case the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s office posted, “During the investigation, surveillance footage showed a white SUV and 3 unidentified individuals dressed in dark clothing with the victim at approximately 2:30 pm. The victim appears to have entered the vehicle against his will.”


Earlier as part of the investigations the police had released a photograph of the victim. They had hoped to trace him soon, but now his dead body has been found.

Community in shock

The kidnapping of Singh, who served as a ‘langari’ at the Gurudwara caused considerable shock and anxiety among the locals of the area. There was palpable tensions and anxiety amongst the Sikh community in the region. THey were concerned about their safety and security.


The recovery of Singh’s body would further accelerate their worries and fears.


So far the police have not revealed any information regarding any suspects being rounded up for questioning. They are investigating the matter and hope to uncover the truth behind the man’s death soon.
