Sausages are a popular food in UK homes, eaten for breakfast as part of a full English, in a toad in the hole for dinner, or alongside mashed potatoes. Typically, they are cooked in a frying pan, but they need oil to turn golden brown and crispy, which can make them quite greasy.
Instead, I use a simple recipe from Good Food, which has more than 40 five-star ratings, with people raving about the result. The recipe notes said: "Cook sausages quickly and easily using an air fryer and without the need for additional oil."
The recipe calls for six sausages of your choice, but I tend to use thicker ones instead of chipolatas.
If you use thinner sausages, you may need to adjust the cooking time to avoid burning them.
Start by piercing the sausages a few times all over using a sharp knife. Whilst this step is optional, it will help to release more fat, making them healthier.
Arrange the sausages in a single layer within your air fryer basket. Avoid using an air fryer liner as the fat needs to be able to release and collect at the bottom of the appliance.
Set the air fryer to 180°C and cook for 10 to 14 minutes, turning them every five minutes until the sausages are cooked through.
If you have a meat thermometer, check that the sausages have reached 75°C in the middle. Serve as a side for breakfast or in a sandwich for a delicious, oil-free result.
Cooking sausages this way, making sure to pierce the skin, yields the most delicious results, and you can't even tell they were cooked without oil.
Good Food users also love the method, and it has over 20 comments below the recipe. One review comment said: "This always works well for me, less fat splatter to clean up."
A second read: "I have to say this is just the best and easiest way of cooking sausages. They were delicious."
A third commented: "They were evenly cooked, so much tastier than fried, and I did some mash with them."
