Aldi has announced a huge change to one of its most popular aisles starting this month. The discount supermarket is making a major shake-up to its booze aisle, introducing new wines within days.
Aldi has previously launched wines that go viral or win awards because they taste far more expensive than they are, including the famous "cult" red Toro Loco Tempranillo for £5. This month, the supermarket is refreshing its wine aisle for the warmer months with a new spring and summer range inspired by popular holiday destinations and city wine bars. With colourful bottles of rosé, white and red, they are sure to be a hit with shoppers.
The budget retailer says the collection aims to tap into Britain's appetite for "affordable luxury", with bottles sourced from regions including South Africa, Portugal and the south of France.
Landing in stores nationwide from March 16, the supermarket said the range is designed to reflect the kind of wines shoppers might encounter while travelling or dining out, but at supermarket prices. Think Tuscan rosé, Algarve reds and crisp South African whites, with prices starting from just £6.49.
Among the new additions is the Specially Selected Muscadelle (£9.99), a white wine Aldi says is inspired by the type often found on restaurant wine lists and city wine bars. It has floral and stone fruit aromas with a dry finish.
For red wine drinkers, the Mimo Moutinho Algarve Red (£6.99) aims to capture the character of Portugal's southern Algarve region. Aldi describes it as a bold but smooth wine with dark fruit flavours and subtle spice, comparable in style to a Southern Rhône red.

Another addition comes from South Africa's well-known wine region of Stellenbosch. The Specially Selected Stellenbosch Chenin Blanc (£6.49) offers citrus and stone fruit notes with a fuller texture, making it a versatile white wine for food pairings.
Alongside the new launches, Aldi is also bringing back several returning bottles.
The Specially Selected Organic Costa Toscana Rosé (£7.99) returns for the season, offering a pale rosé style inspired by wines from Provence. It has flavours of raspberries and strawberries with a refreshing finish.
Also joining the range is the Specially Selected Chianti Governo (£9.99), a modern take on the classic Italian red known for its ripe cherry flavours.
Another returning favourite is Jolie by Juliette (£7.69), a French rosé with berry and citrus notes that Aldi says is designed to evoke the style of Mediterranean rosé wines.
