British viewers tuning in to watch the 98th Academy Awards on ITV1 were left frustrated on Sunday night after a technical glitch sent a loud beeping noise across the stream just minutes into the show.

The sharp beeping cut across host Conan O'Brien's joke-filled opening monologue, leaving many viewers unable to fully enjoy the start of the Los Angeles ceremony. The fault appeared to have been resolved by the time the first award was presented.

ITV1's coverage was fronted by Jonathan Ross live from London, joined by a panel including presenter Elle Osili-Wood, actor Samson Kayo and social media star Fred Asquith.
