New Delhi: Swedish luxury auto brand Volvo Cars is making huge progress in terms of its sustainability journey, focusing on climate action, circular economy, and responsible business, according to its recently published Annual and Sustainability Report 2025. The brand has reduced worldwide CO2 emissions per car by 31 per cent as opposed to their 2018 baseline.


A major part in this achievement is the surging share of electrified vehicles and plug-in hybrids, which now constitute 46 per cent of Volvo Cars’ worldwide sales. This shift has resulted in a lowered tailpipe emissions by 42 per cent.


Furtherm Volvo Cars has made big efforts to reduce the impact of their manufacturing processes. At present, seven out of nine production locations run on climate-neutral energy, making up 87 per cent of the energy used in its operations. The company’s goal of using 25 per cent recycled and bio-based materials in new models by 2025 has already been surpassed, with EX60 using 27 per cent recycled materials. 


Water withdrawal per produces car too has gone down by 29 per cent, which is down to the water efficiency initiatives implemented across every facility.

These initiatives reflect our focus on contributing to environmental restoration while moving steadily towards our global goal of becoming a net-zero greenhouse gas emissions company by 2040.”
