New Delhi: Spotify has made more job cuts in its podcast division, including layoffs at The Ringer which focuses on sports and pop culture content, says Variety. The move is part of internal changes within the company’s podcast operations.

Around 15 employees were affected on Monday, which is about 3% of the podcast team. Most of the layoffs happened at The Ringer and Spotify Studios. According to reports, the decision is not mainly about cutting costs but about improving how teams work together and making processes faster and more efficient.

Layoffs hit key employees and shows

Some well-known names were also impacted by the layoffs. These include Andrew Gruttadaro, who worked on special projects at The Ringer, and staff writer Miles Surrey, known for covering TV and films. Along with the job cuts, The Ringer is also shutting down the podcast “New York, New York With John Jastremski,” which focused on sports in New York.

“It’s impossible to sum up nine years in a tweet but: I worked on so many things — profiles, theme weeks, special projects—that I am incredibly proud of,” Gruttardo said in a post on X saying that he had been let go by The Ringer.

Surrey, in a post on X, said, “It was a rewarding eight and a half years and I’m proud to have literally written the most articles in the site’s history.”

Spotify may support podcast segment

Spotify has not officially commented on the layoffs. A company spokesperson said, “Spotify does not comment on staffing shifts.” However, sources say the company is still investing in its podcast business, especially in areas like video and different content formats.

This is not the first time Spotify has reduced its workforce in this segment. In June 2025, it cut 15 jobs, which was about 5% of the team at that time. Earlier, in 2023, the company laid off around 200 employees as part of changes in its podcast strategy. Across the company, about 1,500 employees were also let go between late 2023 and early 2024, which made up 17% of its global workforce.

Spotify had acquired The Ringer in 2020 for about $250 million as part of its push into podcasts.
