Most people have cherished memories of a particular type of chocolate bar, sweets, ice cream, or other treat they could get as a child which is no longer available. Whether it's Panda Pops - formerly a staple of school discos throughout the UK - Nestlé Toffos - which vanished from shelves in 2008 - or even turkey twizzlers - thanks, Jamie Oliver - many of us yearn for a flavour from the past.
One TikTok user highlighted four UK treats she desperately wishes to see return to shelves. The woman, known as Minstrel Munches on TikTok, where she boasts 142,000 followers, had people reminiscing about their own beloved snacks from years gone by. Beginning the video, she stated: "British UK snacks that I'm pretty sure the whole of the UK has once yearned for."
First on her list? Calippo Shots. These were miniature frozen balls of strawberry and lemon-flavoured ice sold in a shaker-style container, ideal for a swift burst of cool refreshment on a sweltering day. They were reportedly discontinued in 2020, despite being so popular that a petition was even launched calling on the government to intervene, but was rejected.
Minstrel Munches revealed she is reminded of the treat "every single day". "They used to be just so top-tier back in the day," she stated.
"They used to be so refreshing, a little bit because of the lemon, but also so sweet because of the strawberry. These slapped. These were just straight childhood."
Second on the list was Cadbury Dairy Milk Egg 'n' Spoon Oreo chocolate eggs. These were miniature chocolate eggs, which came in packets of four, and could be cracked open to reveal the Oreo filling, which could be consumed with an accompanying wooden spoon. They were reportedly discontinued in 2022, reports Bristol Live.
Minstrel Munches said: "These were pure filth back in the day. [I] used to look forward to Easter literally just for these to be on the shelf."
Third place went to Trident Splash strawberry and lime chewing gum. The gum was strawberry flavoured, and was packed with lime-flavoured liquid filling, which would "splash" out when you chomped into it. The product was reportedly discontinued in 2023.
The woman said: "[This] used to be one of the best chewing gums around. These were top bloody tier. [The] strawberry and lime combo slaps."
She added: "Last but not least, I'm going to include Rowntree's Tooty Frooties, because these? These were top-tier."
Tooty Frooties dated all the way back to 1963, and were chewy, fruit-flavoured sweets with a crunchy shell. Nestlé, which acquired Rowntree's in 1988, ceased producing the sweets in 2019, citing low sales.
Concluding her video, Minstrel Munches said: "Why do companies get rid of the best sweeties? I really don't get it."
Viewers shared their own long-lost favourites in the comments. One said: "I still have dreams about the Calippo Shots. I loved them." However, another had positive news, stating: "They sell the Calippo Shots abroad." Someone enquired: "Where?" to which another responded: "Spain." Another user commented: "Was just about to comment this."
Another user expressed: "Cadbury Spira and Cadbury Tasters were the best." Someone else wrote: "B&M in the UK do their own version of Tooty Frooties. They aren't the same but a damn good replacement when the craving kicks in."
Another person mentioned: "What about Twisters?" And someone else noted: "I miss Drifter bars." A different user lamented: "I need the egg and spoon ugh I miss them."
