Popular crime drama Grace is making its comeback to ITV this weekend with its sixth series. The cherished programme, which first aired back in 2021, features John Simm in the leading role of Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, a determined detective who, tormented by his wife's disappearance, resolves numerous cases.
Grace will be back on ITV1 and ITVX tonight (Sunday, March 29) for its sixth run, with John rejoining his co-stars Richie Campbell, who portrays DI Glenn Branson, and Zoë Tapper, who portrays Cleo Morey.
The synopsis for episode one reads: "The aftermath of ACC Cassian Pewe's betrayal hangs heavily over East Sussex Police several months on, as Grace's team is in the midst of an anti-corruption enquiry. [Meanwhile], Roy wrestles with whether to trust Cassian's intel about Sandy's murder and the threat to Bruno's life. His team is [then] plunged into a case filled with secrets after Eden, the wife of Brighton property developer Neel, is reported missing by her distraught husband," reports the Mirror.
Ahead of season six's eagerly awaited premiere on ITV1, let's explore the programme's forthcoming filming locations.
The sixth series of Grace was shot in and around Brighton and Hove, East Sussex, maintaining the programme's practice of utilising the seaside city and surrounding countryside as its principal setting. Key filming locations encompass areas surrounding the Royal Pavilion and The Lanes, along with Brighton Palace Pier and nearby spots such as Devil's Dyke, Ovingdean, and Peacehaven.
Brighton High Street became a pivotal filming location during series six, when the bustling thoroughfare was transformed to replicate the German city of Munich.
"It was [series] three or four where John and Zoë were able to go to Munich, and I saw it in the script and thought, 'Yeah, of course I'm going to Munich,'" Richie Campbell explained at a recent press Q&A. "My sister lives in Germany. I was calling her on the phone, saying, 'Yeah, I'm coming to Germany'... But no, I didn't go to Munich unfortunately."
Series producer Kiaran Murray-Smith then remarked: "It's amazing what VFX can do down the Brighton High Street."
John also revealed how much he has enjoyed filming in his hometown, saying: "For me personally, over these five or six years, filming Grace has been a great way for me to discover my hometown now. We've been everywhere. And yeah, it's a fantastic place. A fantastic place to live and a fantastic place to film. It's a character in its own right."
Richie, who is "tempted" to relocate to Brighton himself, added: "I do love it. We have so much fun when we're filming, and also, like John said, we're just learning about the whole of Sussex. You're seeing various different places. So yeah, I'm a fan."
Grace season 6 premieres on ITV1 and ITVX on Sunday, March 29 at 8pm
