As of April 2026, Haikyuu!! hasn’t been renewed for Season 5, but the franchise is continuing to be produced in movie form as well as through another anime project (instead of being released like a typical TV show with numbered seasons).

In August 2022, during Jump Festa (the series’s 10th anniversary celebration), it was announced that the rest of the story [largely, the Karasuno vs Kamomedai quarterfinal matches and beyond] would be made into two “Final” feature films; rather than creating Season 5. This decision was made to provide high-quality, cinematic animation of the very action-packed volleyball matches. The first of these feature films, Haikyuu!! The Dumpster Battle is covering the Inarizaki Match and was released in 2024 to great acclaim.

The second and final feature film is titled Haikyuu!! officially. Vs. The Little Giant will have its theatrical release date in Japan set for 2027, with a focus on the Kamomedai Match. Production I.G will produce both feature films. Various updates have been revealed since late 2025, including teaser trailers and artwork. There is also confirmation of the premiere of a new anime special/episode called something like “The Monster Place” (possibly about post-high school or Olympic content), along with the release of The Little Giant in 2027. There are indications that more TV-style content and/or new elements for the series could be introduced at some point in or after 2027.

There hasn’t been any confirmation of a traditional fifth season of Haikyu. Previously-seemingly credible rumors of a numbered season five were subsequently debunked or redirected towards movies instead. Production I.G will still be producing the film(s) and expects all of the original English cast (like Ayumu Murase as Hinata and Kaito Ishikawa as Kageyama) to come back. Likely, Crunchyroll will serve as the global streaming service again.

While movies can afford much larger budgets, allocate more time to longer, uninterrupted matches, and will have a greater spectacle similar to that of sports anime. All of the original manga source material (up to the epilogue) has been included within either previous seasons or stages of being developed as movie adaptations, so while these movies wrap up the core story line, they will also set the stage for future movie adaptations (even the official website seems to have “final” softened) and create an excitement for what is to come.

There are still some fans hoping for series continuity after 2027, but right now, focus is on the development of the upcoming movie and special presentation in early 2026, with updates being released through certain events (Jump Festa), and although the series isn’t outright “canceled,” it’s evolving towards multiple forms of adaptations through the conclusion.
