The Main Examination will be descriptive in nature and will test the candidates' knowledge in the disciplines of Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering. Candidates who secure the minimum qualifying marks—determined by the Commission at its own discretion—in the first stage (Engineering Services Preliminary/Stage-I) and the second stage (Main/Stage-II) examinations will be called for the third stage (Personality Test).

Where does one get a job after passing the Engineering Services Examination?

Just as the UPSC Civil Services Examination is conducted, the UPSC Engineering Services Examination is also held. While IAS, IPS, and IFS (Indian Foreign Service) officers are selected through the UPSC Civil Services Examination, top-tier technical officers (Engineering Officers) are selected through the Engineering Services Examination. These officers play pivotal roles in critical sectors ranging from Railways to Road Transport, Highways, Electricity, Energy, Irrigation, Water Resources, and Defense. They play a crucial role in the construction of major roads, railway projects, power plants, and infrastructure development across the country.
