Tiger Woods suffered a near-miss injury at the Masters after he was tackled by a security guard. The 2019 edition of the event proved to be one of the greatest in its long history with the golf icon pulling off an improbable victory to land his 15th major title.

However, such a triumph looked unlikely at one point when Woods was left hobbling away from the green. During the second round of the tournament, a security guard slipped on the grass and accidentally slid into the American's ankle. The guard had attempted to keep the raucous crowd away from Woods after he hit a stunning shot through branches on the 14th hole.

Despite being caught by the trailing leg of the guard, Woods didn't acknowledge him or the incident as he just limped away after picking his foot up in the air. Much to the relief of fans at Augusta and watching on TV, Woods was okay and even sunk a long putt for birdie after the controversy.

A round of 70 on the final day was enough to secure him his fifth Green Jacket in a win that marked his first major in 11 years. After the tackling situation, the unnamed guard opened up on what occurred during an interview with GOLF.com. He said: "Well, he made birdie, so I guess it all worked out.

"Man, I am really glad he made birdie. Now I'm all over the internet. My boss told me - I don't have my phone but he does. It's on Bleacher Report. It's going to be everywhere. I guess it already is, like, everywhere. Everyone was just coming in so fast and we were trying to get in the right spot. It's so slippery. I was fine until I slipped and almost got Tiger Woods."

Woods himself didn't think much of the accident, as he said after the second round: "It is what it is - accidents happen and we move on. I'm good, dude." Having not competed at the Masters since 2023, fans had hoped to witness his return to his former stomping grounds this week but that dream was dashed after Woods announced his intention to temporarily step away from golf.

His decision came after he wasarrested and charged following a rollover crash near his home on Jupiter Island last month. Woods took to X after the incident to inform of his decision to seek treatment. He wrote: "I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health.

"This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery. I'm committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time."
