The Punjab Kings beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets at the New PCA Stadium in Mullanpur in Match 17 of the 2026 Indian Premier League.

Being put into bat, the Sunrisers got off to a flying start, with star openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head putting on a show. The pair raced to 105 in the powerplay and stitched a mammoth 120-run opening stand off just 50 balls. Abhishek was wrecker-in-chief, scoring 74 off just 28 balls.

However, both openers fell to the medium pace of Shashank Singh and after that, the Sunrisers lost momentum, scoring just 99 runs off the next 70 balls. Captain Ishan Kishan scored 27, being dismissed by a sublime one-handed catch from Marco Jansen. Heinrich Klaasen scored 39 off 33 balls, unable to make a move as the Sunrisers finished 219 for 6.

In response, the Punjab openers starred in a similar fashion, as they scored 93 runs in the powerplay. Priyansh Arya raced to 50 off just 16 balls, the second-fastest in the 2026 edition, while Prabhsimran Singh scored 51, as the pair put on 99 in just 38 balls.

The Kings then lost three quick wickets in succession, butn captain Shreyas Iyer steadied the ship and batted till the end, finishing unbeaten on 69 off 33. The Kings completed the chase with seven balls to spare, making this the tenth time they chased down a 200-plus total in IPL, the most by any team.
