Tension over the Strait of Hormuz has raised the dark cloud of energy crisis around the world. As the supply of oil decreases, the production of electricity is also taking a toll. Solar energy is showing the direction of alternative light in such dire crisis. And in that fight, India’s victory flag was flown on the world stage by Kolkata company ‘Vikram Solar’.
The company has reached the milestone of 10 gigawatts of power generation in terms of installing solar modules around the world. Simply put, this amount of electricity is capable of providing uninterrupted light to around 50 lakh homes in India. Despite progressing step by step in the last two decades, Vikram Solar has run at an unimaginable pace in the last two years. They have doubled their production capacity from 5 GW to 10 GW in just 24 months.
Currently, India’s solar power generation capacity exceeds 150 GW. This organization has emerged as one of the main artisans in that great sacrifice. But the success is not limited to the borders of the country. From America to Europe, they are exporting their modules to 39 countries of the world. The company is now one of the world’s leading solar panel manufacturers, having shipped 1.5 GW of modules to overseas markets.

Vikram Solar has also set a precedent in terms of innovation. Converting the Kochi airport into the world’s first fully solar-powered airport or the country’s first floating solar project—were just within their reach. West Bengal and Tamil Nadu combined currently have a total generating capacity of 9.5 GW. State-of-the-art automation plant set up at Vallam in Tamil Nadu is revolutionizing the solar industry. The organization’s goal is bigger. By 2027, they plan to build 5 gigawatt-hours of energy storage.
Gyanesh Chowdhury, the leader of the organization, said that this success is not just a battle of numbers, but a reflection of the global pollution-free energy revolution. By increasing the production capacity, the company is emphasizing on making more advanced technology batteries and modules in the future. The rise of Vikram Solar in the days of uncertainty of fuel oil in the global market has given new oxygen to India’s dream of self-reliance.
