Travel insurance can get pricier once you're over 65, as age and medical history play a bigger part in how insurers set their prices. But that doesn't mean you need to overpay. Older travellers looking to get away this year can still find affordable cover, according to new figures highlighted by MoneySavingExpert. With premiums often rising sharply after 65, the site has identified some of the lowest-cost single-trip travel insurance policies currently available - based on a 66-year-old traveller taking a one-week trip.

It is generally recommended to buy your insurance policy as soon as you book your holiday, as a big part of a travel policy's value is what it covers before you depart, such as cancellation due to illness, bereavement, redundancy or other unexpected problems.

Topping the list is Leisure Guard (Flexi Bronze), which offers some of the lowest prices across the board:

  • Europe (1 week, individual): £19.04

  • Europe (1 week, couple): £35.23

  • Worldwide (1 week, individual): £57.10

  • Worldwide (1 week, couple): £88.80

Not far behind is Admiral, especially when using a discount code:

  • Europe (individual): £27.52

  • Europe (1 week, couple): £47.02

  • Worldwide (1 week, individual individual): £91.37

  • Worldwide (1 week, couple): £156.16

Other budget-friendly options include:

  • Vibe (Essential) - from £28.09 (Europe individual), though worldwide cover is significantly higher

  • A to Z Insurance (Essentials) - from £28.10 (Europe individual)

  • Coverwise (Bronze) - from £28.40 (Europe individual), £72 worldwide

  • Avanti (Classic) - from £40.68 (Europe individual), with a lower £75 excess

All prices were correct as of February 2026 and will vary depending on age and circumstances.
