As soon as the discussion about fitness and weight loss comes up, the names of Basil Seeds and Chia Seeds come at the top in the list of superfoods. These two seeds, which look similar in appearance, are quite different from each other in terms of their properties and effect on the body. Amidst the increasing demand of both in local markets and health stores, people are often confused about which option is better for their body type and weight loss goal.
The biggest difference between these two seeds is their origin and nutrition. Chia seeds come primarily from Mexico and are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. On the other hand, Sabja, which we also call basil seeds, is of Indian origin and is cooling in nature.
If seen from weight loss perspective, both are effective at their place. When chia seeds are soaked, they absorb 10 to 12 times more water than their weight, which makes the stomach feel full. Vegetables swell immediately when soaked and help in detoxifying the digestive system.
While using them, it is important to keep in mind that vegetables should always be eaten soaked, because they can get stuck in the throat when raw. Chia seeds can also be sprinkled raw on curd, smoothie or salad or can be soaked and made into pudding.
Local health centers and nutritionists suggest that if you are suffering from conditions like PCOD or diabetes, chia seeds can be more beneficial. If you often suffer from constipation or stomach heat, then vegetables are best for you.
