The case of lathi charge on lawyers has gained momentum in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh on 29 October. Lawyers remained on strike on Monday in protest against the incident. Their demand is that the District Judge of Ghaziabad should be dismissed in this case. Lawyers protested in the district courts of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh for their demands. Lawyers also burnt the effigy in front of Allahabad High Court.
During the protest in Ghaziabad, the lawyers closed the main gate, due to which the people coming and going had to face problems. Their demand was that along with the removal of the District Judge, action should also be taken against the police personnel who resorted to lathi charge.
The protesting lawyers said that they will return to work from tomorrow, but the Ghaziabad Bar Association announced that the strike will continue on Wednesday and will not return to work until their demands are met. The association announced to file a criminal contempt case against the District Judge of Ghaziabad in Allahabad High Court.
Lawyers in Delhi also protested against the lathi charge on lawyers in Ghaziabad. The Chairman of Delhi's Tis Hazari Court wrote a letter to CGI condemning the incident of lathi charge on the lawyers of Ghaziabad Court. Yukti Rathi, another lawyer of Tis Hazari Court, said that the incidents of violence against lawyers in the country are extremely worrying. To stop this, he demanded Advocates Protection Act.
The bail hearing of nine accused was to be held in the Ghaziabad District Court on October 29 in the court of District Judge Anil Kumar. The complainant in this case was also a lawyer. During the hearing, a large number of lawyers were present in support of the complainant. The lawyers allege that when the former president of the Bar Association asked to transfer the case to another court due to the crowd, the judge got angry and abused the lawyers. The judge called the police and lathi-charged the lawyers.
