District Magistrate or DM is called the biggest officer of any district. After this, there is ADM, but if we talk about the powers of the field, then SDM is considered the second most powerful officer after DM. The reason is, SDM is an administrative post which has the official power to take action as a sub-registrar magistrate. Let us know what are the powers of an SDM...
What work does SDM do?
SDMs posted in the districts are accountable to the DM of their district and report to him. They are responsible for making every government scheme implemented in their division successful. Along with this, they are also responsible for every other activity. They also have the complete record of government or private lands.
A large staff is under him
All the Tehsildars in the sub division of SDM work under him. SDM is considered to be the link between Tehsildar and DM. SDM has many responsibilities like revenue work, marriage registration, renewal of driving license, issuing certificates like domicile etc.
This is the salary
An SDM gets salary in pay band 9300-34800 with grade pay 5400. His salary starts from Rs 56,100 and can go up to a maximum of Rs 1.77 lakh. Along with this, many allowances and other facilities are also given.
Facilities are same as DM
An SDM gets the same facilities as DM. These include accommodation, security guards and servants etc. However, there is a difference in the ratio of facilities given to him and DM. For example, DM's bungalow is very big, whereas SDM is given a smaller house in comparison to that. Similarly, there is a difference in the number of servants.
