Condom sales data: On the occasion of New Year, there was excitement across the country, where people broke records by showing huge demand for condoms online. According to Blinkit's data, more than one lakh condoms were ordered on the very first day of the New Year. This had never happened before. A similar pattern was seen earlier as well, when more than 10,000 condoms were ordered in just a few hours during the India-Pakistan match.

The World Health Organization (WHO) report has also revealed that the use of condoms is decreasing in India. This report tells which states use condoms the most and in which state its use has decreased. Also, the lack of awareness about condom use and the health problems associated with it have also been highlighted.

Most condoms are purchased in Dadra Nagar Haveli

According to a survey conducted by the National Family Health Department in 2021-22, Dadra Nagar Haveli is the state in India where condoms are used the most. Here 993 out of 10,000 couples use condoms during sexual intercourse. This survey also found that Andhra Pradesh is at second place, where 978 out of 10,000 couples use condoms.

Lack of awareness about condoms

The report also states that there are 6% people in India who do not know about condoms. This means that only 94% people know about condoms and use it. There is a risk of increasing health problems due to lack of awareness and lack of use of condoms. However, the health department is constantly making people aware about its use.

Condom consumption is highest in Uttar Pradesh

Consumption of condoms is highest in UP. On an average, 5.3 crore condoms are used here every year. This figure is much higher than other states. Condoms are sold free of cost in health centres and government hospitals in UP, but despite this, the use of condoms is decreasing.

Reasons for Decreasing Condom Use

According to the survey, condom use is declining in many states. For example, only 960 out of 10,000 couples use condoms in Puducherry, 895 in Punjab, 822 in Chandigarh, and 685 in Haryana. Whereas, this figure is 567 in Himachal Pradesh, 514 in Rajasthan, and 430 in Gujarat.

Condom use and awareness

Despite the low use and lack of awareness of condoms in India, the government is running health campaigns so that people understand its importance and adopt it. However, more awareness needs to be raised for its effective use so that health problems do not increase.
