Sanjaya was of a very humble and religious nature. He always supported truth and religion. Despite being just a charioteer, he never hesitated to tell the truth to Hastinapur King Dhritarashtra. He tried till the last moment to avoid the Mahabharata war. After the defeat of the Pandavas in Chausar, when Duryodhan used his cunningness and forced them to go into exile, Sanjaya realized the future. 

Went to the Pandavas to avoid war

Sanjaya warned Dhritarashtra, saying, 'O King! The destruction of the Kuru dynasty is now certain, but in this Great War, a huge number of citizens will also be lost.' However, Dhritarashtra did not listen to him and took one more step towards the war. After this, on the advice of Bhishma, Dronacharya and other warriors, Dhritarashtra sent Sanjaya to the Pandavas to convince them to avoid the Mahabharata war. Following his orders, Sanjaya went to the Pandavas, although he already knew that the war could not be avoided.

After the Mahabharata war, he went to the Himalayas

In the Mahabharata war that lasted for 18 days in Kurukshetra, when most of Duryodhan and his brothers were killed and the Pandavas won the war, Dhritarashtra was devastated. He did not expect that despite a smaller army, the Pandavas would defeat the Kaurava army. It is said that after this war, Sanjaya stayed in Hastinapur for a long time. Later, when Dhritarashtra, Gandhi and the Pandavas' mother Kunti took sanyaas, Sanjaya also retired from public life. After Dhritarashtra's death, Sanjaya went to the caves of the Himalayas and spent the rest of his life living there.
